Landscape Designer/Author Inspired by 'Magnolia Principal' - Visitors to the 52nd annual Indiana Flower & Patio Show will want to take special note of the Showcase Garden presented by Greenfield’s Brower/Jacques Design, Inc. Its theme has been inspired by a newly-published book entitled The Magnolia Principle: How Needs, Seeds and Weeds Bloom Inner Peace. The book’s author is none other than Cheryl Jacques, MLA, a principal in Brower/Jacques Design and the creative genius behind the magnificent garden. Buy the Book Online Cheryl’s book, which debuts at the Show, juxtaposes how a person’s perception of gardening and nature in general provides a telling glimpse into their very soul. Each plant featured in the book, says Cheryl, represents a specific personality type that has “issues” when it comes to gardening; the issues are examined, evaluated and, ultimately, related to their human counterparts. Cheryl describes The Magnolia Principle as “a self-help book about gardening and what you might realize from the process philosophically.” The book is infused with nearly 50 amazing photos of plants and landscapes, plus five poems that also have been woven into the fabric of Cheryl’s Showcase Garden design. “Writing a book has been a real adventure into the unknown,” the Harvard-trained landscape architect says, “but very rewarding in and of itself. I’m excited to share it with people and, hopefully, uplift their lives. “This garden (design) is my soul on paper,” she said, adding that it also reflects emotions associated with the illness of a very close friend afflicted with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Cheryl and her husband, Ron Brower, are very active in helping increase awareness of ALS and in raising funds for research into cause, treatment and cure of the disease. |
