'A Novel Idea' to help Indy Reads - - The idea of curling up at home with a good book is more than appealing during winter’s cold, grey days. We have a better idea, however “A Novel Idea,” in fact! The 52nd annual Indiana Flower & Patio Show ushers springtime into the Hoosier state March 13-21 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds West Pavilion. This year’s show is themed “A Novel Idea.” Each of the 29 Showcase Garden landscape artists has selected a favorite book from which to draw inspiration from all-time classics to newer releases. One garden even is themed to an original book written and published by its designer! Our guests will marvel to Showcase Gardens themed to the following titles: Robin Hood, Chronicles of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Little House on the Prairie, McElligots Pool, Harry Potter, The Wedding, The Magnolia Principle, The Secret Garden, The Garden Spell, Where the Sidewalk Ends, Somewhere In Time, the Holy Bible (Garden of Eden), The Incredible Journey, Under the Tuscan Sun, The Call of the Wild, A River Runs Through It, The Hobbit, Country Club Café, Travels with Charley-In Search of America, and The Wizard of Oz. We’ve also partnered with Indy Reads, the program that provides free tutoring to functionally illiterate adults in Central Indiana. Through all 9 days of our show, we’ll place collection bins in the West Pavilion’s entry lobbies to accept book donations for the Indy Reads program. Bring K-6 student workbooks or teachers’ manuals, copies of the classics, children’s books, or any appropriate titles that can be used by the program and drop them into the collection bins. Indy Reads will put them to good use! For more information about the program, log on at www.indyreads.org. |
