Landscapers Rake in Awards at '09 Show - - Showcase Garden designers Dave Purcell of Dave’s Lawn & Landscape and Mike Noll of The Noll Landscape Group are returning to the scene of their greatest design triumphs, poised to compete again for top honors at the Indiana Flower & Patio Show. In keeping with our 2010 theme, “A Novel Idea,” Noll has chosen A River Runs Through It as his literary inspiration, while Purcell has designed his garden to The Wedding. Both are hoping for awards’ lightning to strike twice. Last spring, Purcell picked up the Mayor’s Award while Noll laid claim to the Garden of Excellence honor for their individual Showcase Gardens designed to our ’09 theme, “Game On!” Purcell’s Fountaintown firm was selected by Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard as recipient of the annual Mayor’s Award on opening day of the show. Purcell’s Showcase Garden, “Imaginiff,” portrayed a charming gathering area with walkways guiding visitors through the garden to areas of solitude, or to a large outdoor room. A garden house sported a spectacular outdoor kitchen, while an outdoor fireplace provided the perfect spot to gather, relax and gaze at the stars. Noll’s Showcase Garden, “Kick Your Shoes Off,” received the annual Garden of Excellence Award presented by the Indianapolis Landscape Association. “Kick Your Shoes Off,” inspired by the game of horseshoes, featured a one-of-a-kind gazebo, unique brick columns and, true to its inspiration, a horseshoe pit. Large dense evergreens provided a tranquil backdrop as numerous flowering trees wove a stream of color throughout the garden. As Garden of Excellence recipient, the Noblesville landscape firm has the honor of designing our Featured Garden, the aforementioned A River Runs Through It, at this year’s show. The 2010 Garden of Excellence winner will be announced on March 14, with Mayor Ballard visiting the show over our opening weekend to determine recipient of the Mayor’s Award. |
